Maryland's 6th District residents have a promising future as their dedicated representative, Councilwoman Laurie-Anne Sayles, continues to serve them in Congress. She has already met with residents from all five counties, Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett, who have voiced their concerns about the need for infrastructure investments, job creation, access to healthcare, and support for rural communities.

Councilwoman Sayles has developed a comprehensive policy platform called the S.M.A.R.T.E.R. Sixth District vision to provide residents with the resources and opportunities to succeed and thrive. Laurie-Anne understands the importance of a robust economy and its positive impact on communities. She effectively advocated for raising the minimum wage locally and will champion its expansion nationally.

Her historic election as the first Jamaican-American elected to the Montgomery County Council is worth celebrating, but we cannot ignore the broken state of our immigration system. It is time to hold neighboring countries accountable for the mistreatment of their citizens, which is forcing them to flee to our borders by any means necessary.

We need leaders in Congress who can build consensus to create viable pathways for immigrants to become citizens and contribute to our world-class economy.

Laurie-Anne is committed to comprehensive immigration reform and creating a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, including Dreamers and individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
Also, women have lost over 1.1 million jobs since the pandemic began. As we work to revitalize the economy, Laurie-Anne is committed to creating a federal regulatory environment that supports initiatives like strengthening pay equity legislation, the Fair Labor Practices Act, and increasing childcare and paid family leave to address women's lack of job security, benefits, and long-term opportunities across sectors.

Finally, as we look to the future and build upon our progress, Laurie-Anne believes in supporting programs and initiatives to help small, women, minority, disabled, and veteran-owned businesses grow and create jobs in future economies, will spur economic growth, foster innovation, and safeguard investments in technology, bitcoin, and AI while promoting cybersecurity and consumer protection measures.
